About Us
This restaurant was a staple of the Chernobyl community for over 80 years until the Chernobyl disaster. On April 26, 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the town of Pripyat, Ukraine an explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive particles into the atmosphere, which spread over much of the western USSR and Europe.
The Chernobyl disaster was the worst nuclear power plant accident in history in terms of cost and casualties. Four hundred times more radioactive material was released from Chernobyl than by the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. While this disaster is horrible, time has passed and owner Joshua Young wanted to bring awareness to this tragedy by establishing a fine dining experience for tourists of the area.
On April 26, 2011, Josh's Abandoned Restaurant was opened in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the disaster. The restaurant serves an interesting collection of local delicacies that will leave you glowing with delight!
